Guest age12286 Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 Hello, I am new to this forum and galaxys. I have just bought one and have a fault appeared already. Does any one know of a second hand parts supplier who specerlises in galaxys? I need a Instrument cluster as mine has developed a fault with temp gauge. I have replaced the sender unit and have been advised that it is the cluster. Any help on either matter please. Regards Quote
Guest nimrod Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 try http://www.intapart.com/index.htm or elsewhere on the forum someone else posted a link to Fords own recyling/breakers yard! Quote
Guest age12286 Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 Thanks for the advise, I have done a search on second hand parts but did not try breakers. Thanks Quote
Guest nimrod Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 Do remember though to check the compatability of the clocks with your Galaxy! there was a set up for grabs on ebay that warned about compatability and gave the part numbers that were compatable! Quote
Guest age12286 Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 Thanks for the advise, I have been tracking those on E Bay but they are the wrong part number. The latest one the man wont tell me the full part number, he says some numbers are un readable, I do not think so. I have photos of the labels on mine for referance. The local Ford people have been helpfull but they want Quote
Guest nimrod Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 Plus the new one will have '000'' mileage which might scare off buyers when I come to sell it. I'm not sure but I think the mileage can be programmed into the clock! If they can be 'clocked' by unscrupulous dealers I'm sure mileage can be added? Quote
Guest age12286 Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 That would be a novel thing for the car industry, putting milage on a vehicle !!!! Quote
NikpV Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 Both times we have had our instrument pod changed (under warranty) they reprogrammed the correct mileage into it  not that we hinted orherwise you understand :D Quote
charles Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 Same problem with temp gauge. Sender is correct, wiring too, so fault must be in instrument cluster. I leave it as it is. There is a second sender that warns if temp that operates the fans and warns if above 100degrees Quote
Dave-G Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004  "Fords own recyling/breakers yard" EH? :D Quote
Guest age12286 Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 Spent all day on phone and could not get a cluster for love nor money, have ordered a new one. It will be here on Wednesday. The Ford agent when asked if they had experanced any simular problems said '' we have never had to change one of those before'' They suggested that I book the car in for diagonistics @ Quote
charles Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 on the site www.fordscorpio.co.uk i found some information about repairing the instrument cluster. I do not know sure if it is valid for the galaxy too. Quote
Guest age12286 Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 Thanks Charles will have a look. For the latest up date on the cluster saga, Received the new cluster today as promised by the Ford garage, went home and plugged it in ! Now nothing works at all !!!! Phoned them back to complaine as the new one has a different code number. It was then that they informed me that the new one replaces the old type which Ford withdrew, The realy good news is that after they contacting Ford Technicle they then informed me that I would have to book the car into the workshop to have the old clusters configuration down loaded and then have it programmed into the new one @ Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 Contact Ford technical again and tell them that your dealer does not seem to know what to do, can they recommend someone who does know what to do.Sounds like you are indeed being given the run-around. Quote
charles Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 Is the problem a different part no., or has every new instrument cluster to be programmed when plugged in? in any case the dealer should have give you that information before selling one to you. A diagonis before replacing would be better, because the fault is maybe not in the instrument cluster, but in one of the wires to it. Quote
Guest age12286 Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 Charles, In answer to your question, Ford tell me that all new clusters come empty of information. They have to be programed with the specific cars configuration. The change in part number mentioned before is the universal one sent out for my year and model of galaxy, its serves many simular models. Hence the need to programme it for the specific models config. I am confident that the fault is in the cluster in that I borrowed a second hand one for a twin air bag model from a scrap yard and the fault went away, all bar the air bag warning light not going out because it was looking for a 2nd air bag that was not there. Car booked in on Wednesday for the config, will let you know how it all goes. Regards ;) Quote
Guest age12286 Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Just to complete the story, if anybody is interested. The new cluster was fitted today with no problems. The old milage was re programmed into the new cluster and temp gauge is fine now. Total cost for work Quote
